Test Procedure

You are provided with solution Q. Carry out the tests below and write down your observations and inferences in the spaces provided.


Place 4cm3 of solution Q in a boiling tube and add 10cm3 of distilled water. Divide the resulting solution into 5 portions T1, T2, T3, T4 & T5.

  • (i)To the 1st portion, add dropwise about 1 cm3 of sodium hydroxide solution
  • (ii)To the 2nd portion, add 2-3 drops of barium chloride solution
  • (ii)To the 3rd portion, add dropwise all chlorine water provided
  • (iii)To the 4th portion add all bromine water provided
  • (iv)To the 5th portion, add 2 to 3 drops of lead (ii) nitrate solution
